The Basis module lays out the foundational aspects of the
NAIO™ holistic awareness process for participants. It serves
as a prerequisite for taking further modules and for entering the
NAIO™ Practitioner Training and Certification Path.
NAIO™ was developed by Prue Jeffries, a professional surfer,
artist, educator and therapeutic guide. She spent life in the water
as a surfer and water-person, immersed in the ocean and natural world. From young, Prue kept alive her openness to creativity and the transpersonal, her personal experiences inspired her to delve into existentialism, philosophy, phenomenology, metaphysics and more. As one of the world’s best professional surfers, she created an experiential and multi-field approach inspired by personal, mainstream, and holistic influences for wellness and performance. NAIO™ originated from her personal approach to supporting
people informed by water, the body, and nature, and refined by ongoing studies and teaching well-being approaches over the
last 30 years.
The NAIO™ process has been further informed by somatic, meditation and focus practices. Also, advances in neurobiology
and biophysics, psychology, physics, philosophy. As an evolving process today, it can support resolution of conditional patterns,
with the integration of personal and bodily awareness, life awareness and overall feelings of interconnection, self regulation and well-being.
NAIO Founder Prue Jeffries touches on some of the background, experiences and influences that helped to shape the creation of NAIO Holistic Awareness Process.
A short introductory video about NAIO.
An Introduction on the skill of Open Awareness and how it is used within the context of NAIO.
Open Awareness Exploration: Open Nature Practice is the first a several explorations and practices designed to support developing the Open Awareness skill. This lesson explores using nature as a resource. It focuses on the components in Open Awareness of Introspection, Extrospection and Meta-Cognitive Awareness.
This lesson includes:
This lesson supports sensory and perceptual awareness building, moving the attention fluidly between different foci, whilst holding a broad awareness simultaneously. It is another option to develop the capacity to enter and maintain a state of Open Awareness.
Orienting and moving between the basic 5 Sensory Portals of Awareness supports establishing and grounding ourselves in present-time-space awareness, and also open the door to nuanced sensory experiences beyond the basic 5 Senses.
The Cloud Awareness and Simple Open Awareness Practices are another way to build resources, and also develop the capacity to be in, and eventually sustain the state of Open Awareness. There are six activities to engage with in the lesson.
This lesson explores the concept of the Relational Field which is found in various therapeutic and somatic approaches to working with people. It discusses what the Relational Field means, and how it is applied for NAIO.
This presentation seeks to explore concepts of Empathy, Compassion, Emotional Contagion and the Mirror Systems of the body. Although not discussed - there is quiet a lot of discourse in fields beyond neuroscience that feel Compassion is also a virtue. Perhaps it is so encompassing that it wears a multitude of faces (complex-passion) - so that it can be a skill, a virtue and also as I suggest a "state".
Discussion on philosopher Martin Buber I-Thou and it's pertinence to the Relational Field for NAIO.
Article exploring definitions of the 'Body' that harmonises with NAIO principles. It also explores the multifactoral ways trauma may be impacting or have impacted a person or client.
A presentation by Prue Jeffries for ISMETA first annual Global Somatic Movement Day
The practice focuses on developing sensory awareness skills, self regulation and ways to touch.
